Exposing children to different languages from an early age enhances their understanding of the world and boosts their communication skills, cognitive development and sense of self. The educators at Papilio Early Learning North Strathfield Blue Campus capture that sense of curiosity and love of learning, with integrated language classes offered as part of the weekly curriculum.
The benefits of learning another language
“Providing the opportunity for children to engage with different languages encourages children to pronounce unfamiliar sounds and learn about cultural diversity in a respectful way”, explained Lifelong Learning Centre’s Education Advisor, Jola Sung.
What’s offered at Papilio Early Learning North Strathfield Blue?
Centre Manager, Sazia Rahiman spoke with us about their language programs and how it benefits their little learners.
“We are very proud to offer Hindi, Arabic, Mandarin, Korean and Spanish for our little learners of every age,” explained Sazia.
“We believe that a second language gives young children the opportunity to explore and learn about different cultures, understand and value diversity and embrace the differences.”
“Our children and families love that we offer the language program flexibly and as part of everyday learning and play.”
Promote exploration of language at home
Education Advisor, Natasha Perrins recommends incorporating action songs to expose children to language in an enjoyable way.
“By using actions when you speak or sing, it promotes cognitive functioning and helps your child to make the connections between word, sound and action”, Natasha explained.
“Make a point to celebrate diversity and language both spontaneously and intentionally – to provide plenty of opportunities to embrace and support language.”
